Would you go under the knife?

More than half of British women would turn down the offer of cosmetic surgery if it was offered to them – according to a recent poll.

Out of the 750 females surveyed by professional hair products retailer Fabriah.com, 56% would opt to keep the natural look rather than go under the knife to change their appearance.

Still, 44% of respondents would opt for surgery if they thought it would make them look younger or more attractive.

Of the women who would opt for plastic surgery, botox and wrinkle reduction was the most popular choice – closely followed by liposuction.

Beauty spokesperson for Fabriah.com, Francesca Davies commented: “For the most part, cosmetic surgery is very expensive and in some cases can go horribly wrong.

“You only have to look at celebrities such as Cher, Joan Rivers and Donatella Versace to see how excessive plastic surgery can make someone look unnatural and can leave a permanently stunned expression on their face.”

Nose corrections and pinning back of ears proved to be least popular among those surveyed as were collagen injections and implants.

Surprisingly, women aged 18 – 30 were much more likely to consider cosmetic surgery than older generations of women with 55+ category least likely to take up the offer.

One woman who took part in the survey commented: “I would never go under the knife! I’d rather grow old gracefully than mutilate my body.

“You look at older female celebrities such as Helen Mirren and Jane Seymour and they look both beautiful and natural.”

The survey also showed a distinct urban/rural divide with women from the nation’s cities proving to be distinctly more in favour for a nip and a tuck than those living in the countryside.

It is believed that an improvement in the way people look after their skin and the rise in quality and affordability of anti-ageing creams are key factors in the majority of women wanting to keep the natural look.

Another respondent said: “I think I would always keep an open mind when it comes to plastic surgery. I would never have it done for the sake of it, but when I get older I may consider botox – although I’ve heard it can be very painful.

“If done well, plastic surgery can take years off you. However, it is the cost more than anything that would put me off. Also, botox wears off after six months and at £300 plus per injection it’s not worth it.”
