Are your pores a cause for concern?

Large pores are a pesky problem that can plague women, but is there something that we can do to reduce the appearance?

First things first, you’re never going to permanently change the size of your pores, but there are some tips and tricks to help reduce the appearance and get your skin looking silky smooth.

Caroline Frazer, celebrity make-up artist and skincare expert for Simple is here to help banish beauty myths about pesky enlarged pores.

Caroline says: “Products or DIY remedies such as an ice cube used on the face can help lessen the appearance of open or enlarged pores but only for a very short while – enlarged pores won’t disappear or shrink overnight. However, there are things you can do to make them look less visible.

"Most people who have larger pores have greasier skin. Look out for cleansers that will help de-clog your pores which contain ingredients such as geranium, chamomile and witch hazel to clarify and refresh skin and help visibly reduce the size of pores. This helps reduce the dead skin cells which can get stuck in your pores. It will also help lessen the oil on your skin, which can make your pores look bigger. You can also try pore strips to help unblock these hard to shift areas on the nose etc.

"When it comes to dislodging those pores, there are certain key things you can do to help – exfoliate, mask and hydrate.

"Exfoliating on a regular basis will definitely give the appearance of shrinking pores. If you are routinely getting off the dead skin cells, which get clogged in your pores, your pores will avoid getting stretched out daily. If you want to splurge, try a sonic face brush to help with the exfoliating. There are loads on the market and over time you will notice smaller looking pores.

"Masks with Kaolin clay in them are great for those with large, clogged pores. You only need to use them once or twice a week for noticeable benefits.

"Keep yourself hydrated with plenty of water which will enhance the appearance of your skin, reduce pore size, and help flush out toxins from the body. Microdermabrasion can also really help when it comes to treating open pores with the sort of intensity guaranteed to keep unwanted attacks of acne and spots at bay.

"By trying one or a combination of the above treatments you can wave bye bye to enlarged pores and pimples and say hello to a fresh and clear feeling face.”
