Keep your skin looking fresh whilst skiing

With the skiing season now upon us, we cannot wait to hit the slopes. Glistening snow, hot chocolate in front of the fire and incredible mountain views; what more could you ask for. After a full day on the mountains, it is now time to get ready for the evening, but…..there is one slight snag and that is our windswept pink faces. The combination of the cold weather and the UV rays can cause havoc on our skin, so if you are heading to the slopes this year, it is important to take special care.

London’s leading skin care expert Malvina Fraser believes that one of the most affected areas is our eyes. ‘On the mountains where you are high up and with the reflection off the white snow, the sun is incredibly powerful. So it is important to be prepared before you head out there.’

The skin of our eyelids is very thin and contains fragile tissue which is vulnerable to UV light. Make sure you wear UV protection sunglasses when in direct sunlight. Invest in wrap around glasses to make sure every area is covered.

The eye area has less oil glands making a richer cream more beneficial. After a long day on the slopes, relax by popping on an eye mask to nourish the eyes. Work the cream all the way up to the forehead to stop wrinkles appearing.

Keeping hydrated is essential when you are exercising all day. Drink plenty of water and coconut water which includes electrolytes containing sodium and potassium salts which replenish the body.

Damage from UV rays penetrates beyond the top layer of the skin (epidermis). This is why it is so important to wear sun cream. For extra protection, apply a Victim C serum underneath.

90% of skin aging is secondary to sun damage which causes a breakdown of collagen and elastin in the skin. This leads to the dreaded ‘crow’s feet’ at the sides of our eyes. Shade your face at all times to avoid squinting.

The area around our eyes is very sensitive and prone to becoming dry and sore from direct sunlight. After taking off your eye makeup at night, cleanse the eye with Oprex. The saline ointment will stop any reaction from the harsh qualities of the make-up remover.
