Kylie Jenner looked sultry on the red carpet last night

Kylie Jenner wanted a "punk" inspired hairdo.

The 'Keeping Up With The Kardashians' star shocked fans by debuting dip dyed blue locks last week and apparently had a very clear idea of the look she was going for.

Daniel Moon, a colourist at Andy Lecompte Salon in Los Angeles, told E! Online: "Punk is the new pretty and pretty is the new punk. She made my job easy.

"She came in asking for blue or green hair, and was very aware of the effect the chosen shade would have on her skin tone, and how it would fade. I recommended using more than one color to add dimension and she agreed."

The colour isn't permanent, however, so the 16-year-old star is likely to go back to her dark brunette tresses in time for her sister Kim Kardashian's imminent wedding to Kanye West.

Daniel - who has also worked with Samantha Ronson, Rumer Willis and Rita Ora - predicts more and more celebrities will be jumping on the bright colour bandwagon this summer.

He said: "Ever since Nicole Richie set the bar as a lavender princess, I would say this is only the beginning of more colorful hairstyles."

The hairdresser thinks young Hollywood stars like Kylie and Demi Lovato embracing the punk revival is having a massive effect on fashion.

Daniel explained: "Punk is an attitude that rebels against traditional values. That's exactly what is happening here. Young starlets are adopting this attitude and designers are supporting them. Designer Vivienne Westwood has made a career of this.

"Kylie Jenner has this attitude and is confident in her style. Youth culture has always influenced fashion. This is what is happening now."
