Giuliana Rancic's Golden Globes Gossip

10 months ago 12th Jan 16:42

Ahead of last night's spectacular Golden Globes, FemaleFirst sat down to chat to the lovely Giuliana Rancic, E! Entertainment's news host all about her Live Red Carpet Coverage and what's upcoming in her hectic work schedule.

Giving us some fabulous insider information, Guiliana also shared her predictions for the winners with us, and gave us a sneaky peak of the hottest trends we were likely to see on the red carpet.

Here we give her a grilling about what she's wearing for the big event and who she tips for fashion success on the red carpet...

What have you been up to recently?

Well, just getting ready for the Globes and I was on vacation last week and now I'm back, so I've just been doing some research ahead of Sunday.

What are you wearing for the big event?

I'm going to wear Jay Mendel for Sunday, which is incredibly gorgeous and I was talking about him to someone else the other day actually about someone else who had worn him. I think it was Reese Witherspoon or someone like that and I've noticed that the dress I'm wearing is like a slate grey colour and the other person's was similar and I think that's what we're going to see a lot of this weekend. You know we have those years where we see a lot of colour? you know those oranges, blues and fuchsias, but I think this year and from what I've seen in all my fittings, all the dresses are totally muted and I think even Angelina Jolie's dress at the Critics Choice Awards was very light, kind of a creamy dress and I don't think we're going to see as much colour this year.

Are you excited about Sunday, what do you think we can expect?

I think the actors are really excited this year, because last year, if you remember there was the writers strike and it didn't take place. I was actually one of the reporters that had to announce it and it was nerve wracking! I'm seriously glad that this year I get to be on the red carpet instead of on that stage because it was crazy. I think the actors missed the Golden Globes last year, so they're pretty excited to do it this year, you know it's such an important awards show and it's so glamorous and it's such a gorgeous show and I think they'll be a lot of buzz and enthusiasm on the red carpet and i think they're in really good spirits now and it's such a fun bunch that are nominated too.

Do you think it will be bigger and better this year, or do you think because of the credit crunch it will be toned down?

I think it is. Here's the deal, you know awards shows, there are so many of them now and they struggle with the number, and when the awards shows air, they don't do as well as they used to do. Our red carpet footage does great, because people love the fashion but one you get into the show people get a little bored, so I think that this year they have tried to up the ante and make it cooler and quicker. I think it's going to be a good show that will move quicker and faster and I think there will be a lot of surprises in store, because they have to do that to keep people watching every year.

Who are you looking forward to seeing this year and why?

Well, I'm obsessed with Angelina, she's like the most beautiful woman in the world and so I'd love to see what she's wearing, because she's even more beautiful in real life. I just saw her a few weeks ago at a premiere and she looked just shockingly beautiful and Anne Hathaway, I think is adorable, you know she's really cute and she's been getting a lot of attention too. I don't know whether you heard but there was a mistake on the Golden Globes website yesterday where they put a star by her name, as if she'd won and people saw it and started e-mailing it around and then they took it off and they had to put out a statement saying 'we saw the mistake, and we've corrected the mistake' but they didn't say that she didn't win or did win, so that's kind of interesting to talk to her and see what her take on it is.

She won last night at the Critics Choice and they are pretty good as forecasting what happens at the Globes and the Oscars. I'm also really excited about seeing Meryl Streep, I've interviewed her several times and she is the nicest woman! If she wasn't an actress, she'd be a fifth grade teacher, she's so un-Hollywood and doesn't even live in LA. She's just an incredible woman and I just love her and love talking to her and you know, she brings this element of realness to the show and shows people not every actor in Hollywood is completely affected. Kate Winslet is funny, as she loves to make fun of American reporters and she does an amazing impression and so I'm going to ask her to do the impression and maybe imitate me and make fun of me, which I don't mind, it would be an honour.

Who else, well Mickey Rourke because he's the comeback kid in The Wrestler, and you know, remember Nine 1/2 Weeks with Kim Basinger, ah! he was like the hottest thing ever and it would be kind of cool to see him and interview him, after loving him as a kid; he's changed a lot, but he's still a great actor. Leonardo DiCaprio, I'm pretty curious to see if he brings Bar Refaeli with him, you know because the only girlfriend he's only really brought out before was Gisele, and they never went to that many shows, so I'm curious if he brings her along, that would be nice.

Has anyone really disappointed you on the red carpet?

The only one really was Russell Crowe, he's just a difficult interview in general though. I was very excited the first time I interviewed him for Beautiful Mind. I'd never met him before and thought the movie was incredible and i thought his performance was unbelievable and I was so excited to meet him and he just wasn't really nice to me and you know, wasn't really nice to anyone or any of the reporters. I just thought that was a real let down, and you do know what you're getting into when you're in this business, and it's not me he's talking to, well you know I'm doing the interview, but he's talking to millions of fans who are watching him and when you let down your fans and give us attitude, I just think it's a real let down and disappointment. He was probably my most disappointing interview.

What's been the best and the worst outfits you have seen over the years on the red carpet?

I think a beautiful gown was on Penelope Cruz a few years ago at the Oscars, it was Versace and it was like a mermaidy coral colour, and it was so beautiful. She had her hair pulled back and I always remember that time, because I thought she looked so gorgeous. I thought that Anne Hathaway looked great at the Oscars last year when she was in red Valentino which was gorgeous, it was like a one-shouldered design with the flowers and it was all red, I thought she looked incredible. I think that Nicole Kidman can do no wrong either, I love Nicole Kidman, even when people think she's a disaster, I think most of the time she's great, because she's a fashionista!

With that in mind, who do you think will win the style war this year?

Oooh, that's a good question! I think either Angelina, because whatever dress she wears, you know, right now in her life she looks more beautiful than ever. You know, her hair is beautiful, her skin is gorgeous, the whites of her eyes are super shiny, she just looks beautiful. She could put on a trash bag and still look gorgeous. Another one I think, is Anne Hathaway, because all the designers are going after her for the awards and there's always one or two girls that they're all targeting and I think Anne is one of them, because she's young and she's winning a lot of awards, so they know the dress is going to get a lot of attention. Also she's really thin and looks like a mannequin, she'll look great in any dress and in any style. She's not artificial, she's classic and she's got her flaws and isn't perfect and I think she's got more of a classic type beauty, and definitely look out for her.

What's next for you after the Golden Globes then?

Well, I'm starting to prepare for the Oscars and a show that we just finished taping, which will premiere on the Style Network, which is E!s sister network. We had like a wedding special filmed, and this is like a follow-up to that with me and my husband. It's called 'Just Married' so we're just preparing to launch that now and that will be a lot of fun!

Well, good luck with everything and thanks for chatting to us Giuliana!
