Jemma Kidd advises using a primer to help lipstick stay on and keep its colour.
The top make-up artist isn't a fan of long-wear lipsticks, as they can dry out your pout, and instead recommends wearing a base primer to ensure a long-lasting shade.
She said: "Long-wear lipsticks can be too drying. To make lipstick last longer, without this drying effect, start by using a lip primer. This will help prevent lipstick bleeding and will ensure longer-lasting hold. Use a waxy lip liner to line and fill the whole lip area and lastly press your lipstick into the lips rather than wiping casually. Check your lipstick regularly, especially if you've been kissing people hello at parties!"
An easy way to avoid this is to do your eye make-up before the rest of your face, that way if anything smudges you can simply wipe off without ruining your base
Another tip Jemma - sister of model Jodie Kidd - also advised is doing eye make-up before anything else.
She said: "Many women tend to opt for heavier eye make-up for an evening out, often using heavy pigments or glitter. Stray flecks of eye shadow and mascara can fall onto the face and result in smudged foundation. An easy way to avoid this is to do your eye make-up before the rest of your face, that way if anything smudges you can simply wipe off without ruining your base."
Jemma was giving advice as part of the launch for the new limited edition Filofax Beauty Giftbox, which contains a unique perfume pen atomiser, a mirror and a voucher for a fabulous free beauty treatment worth up to £100 as well a chic Filofax organiser.
The Giftbox can be purchased from www.filofaxgifts.co.uk for just £35.
