Julianne Moore Hates 50s Clothes

Julianne Moore hates having to wear 1950s-style clothes because she doesn't have the body shape to suit the fashions.

The 'Kids Are Alright' star prefers the style of the 1970s because her body shape does not fit into the classic 50s look.

She said: "I don't like 50s clothes. I wear them in movies, or they appear on the runway, ladylike waists and all that. I'm like, 'No!'

"I hate them on me because I have no waist. I go straight up and down.

"I remember a Life magazine photo of a girl with long hair, in jeans, no make-up, hair very loose and I thought she was the most beautiful girl in the world. Very 70s. That has stayed with me my entire life."

The 50-year-old actress is famed for her pale skin and natural beauty, and she believes staying out of the sun has helped her age well.

She told InStyle magazine: "I say this to every young person I know, stay out of the sun! I have very fair skin and it could have been super damaged.

"I was a kid before SPF was invented. But my family never went to the beach until after three o'clock and only stayed for 45 minutes. Now I always wear sunscreen and I walk on the shady side of the street."
