Amy Adams wears Valentino

We've taken a look at the best black gowns and the best metallic gowns at last night's Golden Globes Awards, now we look at the best use of colour.

Thankfully there was a myriad of colour on the red carpet with different shades of red, green, coral and blue making an appearance. Here's some of our favourites.

Lupita Nyong’o was another celeb we couldn't wait to see hit the red carpet and she certainly didn't disappoint with her bold red Ralph Lauren gown. Her red silk dress with off-the-shoulder detail had a cape like detail for full drama. Minimal jewels completed another gorgeous look from the 12 Years a Slave actress.

Caitlin Fitzgerald stood out in her baby blue Emilia Wickstead dress with short sleeves, high neckline and full skirt which comes up at the front. Blue and coral pumps and a coral clutch perfected this look - another favourtie from the evening.

Emma Watson was another standout look, mainly because she avoided a big gown all together. The Harry Potter actress, who was wearing Dior, chose a pair of black trousers to go with her red dress which features a central split and cut-out back. A simple bun, a pink lip and pearl studs compelted this look.

Easily one of our favourites of the evening. Do you think the risk paid off?

Sarah Hyland, who usually dresses too mature for her age, looked youthful and glowing in her coral Georges Hobeika Fall 2013 Couture gown. The sporty nature of the gown complimented her petite frame and the Valentino-inspired braided hairstyle added a pretty edge to the look.

Taylor Swift went big in a pink and black Carolina Herrera gown, it's surprising there wasn't some added embellishment to the look, we know how she loves that.

Reese Witherspoon also opted for a bright hue in her custom Calvin Klein silk crepe t-shirt back dress. Highlighting her gorgeous figure, there was very little detail to the dress, but with a colour that standout, it hardly matters.

Julie Bowen, from Modern Family, chose more rich shades with her Carolina Herrera Fall 2013 gown. The bodice is a velvet red and the skirt is a magenta shade, which is pulled together with a velvet magenta waist belt. The actress was glowing last night.

Julia Louis-Dreyfus kept it simple in an orange Narciso Rodriguez gown, and put plenty of the younger ladies to shame.

Taylor Schilling made an impact in a bright green custom Thakoon dress with beautiful draping and lace applique detailing across the bust.

Helen Mirren looked radiant in her green Jenny Packham bespoke, with gathered waist and beaded flower design, Helen was positively radiant in the gown which she paired with emerald and diamond jewels from Bulgari.

Finally, Amy Adams and her red Valentino gown rounds up the best use of colour. With a seventies vibe going on here, it's reminiscent of the styling of the film that she was nominated for, American Hustle. The plunging neckline contrasted with the soft skirt was the perfect mix of the two styles. Minimal gold jewels completed her lovely look.

Which was your favourite use of colour?
