Marc Jacobs plans to keep his outfit simple at this year's Met Ball.

The esteemed fashion designer has revealed he will stick to the strict dress code set for this year's Costume Institute Gala event in New York, donning stylish black tie courtesy of Saint Laurent.

Marc's fashion choice is a stark contrast to the polka-dot pyjamas he wore last year, when he accompanied Sofia Coppola, and the head-turning sheer lace dress and boxer shorts combo he wore with great confidence in 2012.

The designer told New York Magazine's The Cut: "I think it will be black with white tie, as the dress code asks for ... [I'll be wearing] Saint Laurent."

The 51-year-old fashion guru admits his style will be much more "straightforward", but has hinted he won't enjoy dressing up this year as much as he has in the past.

Marc said: "I mean it's not exciting as wearing a lace dress and boxer shorts, but that was only for Miuccia Prada. This is much more straightforward."

As for Marc's date to this year's ball, he will be joined by 'American Horror Story' actress Jessica Lange, 65, who is the face of his beauty brand, Marc Jacobs Beauty.

He added: "I will be escorting the lovely and brilliant Jessica Lange."
