Beyonce chose a Givency look at the Met Gala

Beyonce chose a Givency look at the Met Gala

Fashion’s biggest event of the year took place in New York last night and the theme was PUNK: Chaos to Couture.

Plenty of the attendees didn’t dress to the theme, but thankfully there was plenty that did.

We expected mini dresses, bold looks, stand-out beauty and hair looks and that’s exactly what we got.

We’ve taken a quick look through our favourite punk looks of the evening. We weren’t disappointed. Was you?

Beyonce was honorary chair of the event, and as Ricardo Tisci of Givenchy was co-chair it was obvious that the mother-of-one would wear a piece designed by him.

The standout black gown, with orange, red and yellow flame-inspired detail, a thigh-high split, long train with matching long boots and gauntlet gloves was everything we could have expected.

I personally think the boots were overkill but if anyone can carry this off, it’s Beyonce.

I would personally love to know how she looks so fresh-faced after touring for the past couple of weeks.

Anne Hathaway surprised me with her newly-dyed blonde hair. The actress finally gave us what we desired after the Oscar’s, a beautiful Valentino gown.

The beautiful Valentino Couture sequinned embellished gown with sheer panels showed just the right amount of skin and the feather cuffs were the perfect touch.

Sexy and punk – we’re loving this new look Anne.

Sienna Miller punked up her white gown with the addition of a gold studded cropped leather jacket – the British actress chose Burberry for the evening.

The bed-head hair, spiked headband, ear cuff and layered rings all screamed punk. Definitely another favourite from the evening – and something that’s quite wearable for everyone.

Florence Welch, like always, brought drama to the red carpet. In a Givenchy Fall 2012 Couture black gown with velvet and tassels, she commanded the attention of everyone. She has such a presence, whether she’s on stage or the red carpet.

Nicole Richie wore a custom Topshop look

Kate Bosworth went super short in Balmain at the Met Gala last night. The actress chose a long-sleeved pink embellished top and styled it as a mini dress. She cinched in the waist with a gold belt and loose, undone curls completed her look.

I found myself falling in love with Kristen Stewart’s head-to-toe burgundy look. She chose a Stella McCartney jumpsuit and carried the colour through to her nails, pumps and eyes – one of my favourite beauty looks of the evening.

Who would have thought that you could make Vera Wang look punk? Well, Kerry Washington made an effort to do just that, she looked beautiful in a floral print V-neck gown. The tulle train and leather long gloves, and the lace peplum detail added the perfect amount of punk to her outfit. Simple, sleek hair and sexy cat-eye make-up completed her look. I don’t think they’ll ever be a look I don’t love from Kerry.

Nina Dobrev has definitely found her style groove and working with her stylist she produces look after look that I fall in love with. One of the many trouser looks of the evening, the Vampire Diaries star chose a Monique Lhuiller corseted, black lace pant suit with black leather halter and tulle overskirt. Side-swept locks, a dramatic cat-eye and black jewels completed the look perfectly.

Jaime King also chose a pant suit, hers was from British high street Topshop though. The mummy-to-be wore a black silk pantsuit with lace long-sleeved body underneath. I love the addition of her spiked crown to the look. Understated, but very punk.

Sarah Jessica Parker wears Giles

Nicole Richie also chose a Topshop look for the big night, her cream embellished gown was definitely beautiful, but it was her make-up and hair that definitely made the look punk. She painted her hair a shocking white/grey colour. Ear cuffs and a dark pout completed the look. The fun element that Nicole brought to the red carpet is definitely what saves this look.

Miley Cyrus has a reputation for dressing punk, especially since she chopped off all her hair, so last night’s theme was definitely perfect for the singer. Miley vamped the red carpet up in her Marc Jacobs Fall 2013 black mesh gown with nude lining. The whole look oozed sex appeal, she added even more punk to the look by styling her hair into spikes – bold, but we know to expect this from Miley.

Sarah Jessica Parker was always going to stand out on the red carpet last night, and that she did in her Giles gown.

It was most definitely one of the boldest looks of the evening, and something that no one else could carry off really.

The gold-leaf and painted-splattered gown from the Giles Fall 2013 gown wasn’t bold enough for the Sex and the City starlet, who added even more theatrics with a custom Philip Treacy headpiece and over-the-knee Christian Louboutin velvet boots. A perfect look for the evening.

Jessica Biel went for a slight punk look in black Giambattista Valli Spring 2013 Couture ensemble. The strapless bodice cinches in at the waist, defining how small it really is and the mullet silhouette with matching trousers is the perfect ode to punk. Very simple make-up and hair completed the look, she wanted all focus to be on the addition of her nose ring. A simple way to bring punk to a Couture look.

Lily Collins definitely took the punk theme to heart with a Moschino look that screamed every element of punk.

She chose a black gown with embellishment, then added a sequin jacket, blue streaked hair and a bold eye completed the look. Definitely one of the more memorable looks of the evening, but I don’t necessarily think this was a good thing.

Another honorary chair, Rooney Mara was of course wearing Givenchy too. But that would have been the case I think anyway if Ricardo Tisci wasn’t sat on the board as well. We know how much she loves the bold and gothic looks from the house.

A white lace Couture gown with a bold lip and a simple ponytail was her look for the evening. It’s tried and tested and definitely a style that works for Rooney.

Taylor Swift was definitely one of the more beautiful of the punk lot wearing a J. Mendel look. Her black gown with lace insets and a dramatic embellished neckline was simply beautiful. She wore her hair in a half-up-half-down style which was perfect to show off the detail of the dress. Dark nails and dramatic smoky eyes completed the beautiful look.

There were plenty more punk looks of the evening, in fact I could write all day about them, but I'll stop here and move on to the non-punk looks.

Who was your favourite at the event though?
