Harrogate is the best place to be for a top night out according to a new study which looked at all locations accross the UK.

Despite its refined reputation for tea-rooms and gardens, Harrogate has the best mix per capita of the essentials needed for the perfect weekend – particularly for any young, single people.

The research from T-Mobile looked at all the elements of a great weekend - single men and women, pubs and wine bars, restaurants and takeaways, as well as football, shopping and nightclubs – the research calculates which towns and cities outside London offer the best mix in comparison to its population.

Following closely behind Harrogate were the British Riviera resort of Torquay, Belfast, York and Halifax.

The top ten places to be this weekend are as follows:

1.Harrogate
2.Torquay
3.Belfast
4.York
5.Halifax
6.Canterbury
7.Bath
8.Blackburn
9.Truro
10.Huddersfield

And for those interested in where to go to experience just one of the key elements of a great weekend, the research also reveals the UK’s top spots.

For the Love of…Shopping and Football

For singletons looking for love, Manchester has the most single men and Liverpool the most single women per capita. Of course, the UK’s national pastime can’t be forgotten – so if football is the most essential part of a good weekend, then Colchester, which has the most clubs per head, is the place to be. And potential WAGs should head to Harrogate which offers the largest selection of clothes shops.

Grubs Up!

For the best selection of eateries, the results are scattered far and wide. Blackburn takes the lead for the largest number of takeaways per capita, Cleveland has the pick of pizza deliveries and Belfast boasts both the most fast-food and Chinese restaurants.

It’s la dolce vita in Harrogate where residents just can’t get enough of Italian restaurants, whilst Slough curries favour with the highest proportion of Indian eateries per capita.

Tonight’s the Night

For those who love to drink and party, the North West is where it’s at! Liverpool has the most wine-bars and off-licences per inhabitant, Blackpool is the top spot for nightclubs, and if you’re after pubs and theatres, Llandrindod Wells in mid-Wales has the most per capita.

Commenting on the findings, Chris Barrow, Head of Pay at T-Mobile said: “We’re sure this research has unearthed some surprising results, but when you get down to the elements of the perfect weekend, Harrogate really does seem to have it all. But everywhere in the UK has something good about it – especially if you’re with your friends. That’s why we believe Top Up Friday is also essential to a great weekend. Just by topping up on a Friday, you can get free unlimited texts that Saturday and Sunday.”

T-Mobile conducted the research to celebrate the laucnh of ‘Top Up Friday’, which allows customers unlimited texts to their mates on Saturdays and Sundays.
