Sales: Love Or Loathe?

January sales, pah! Some would say (mainly men) that they allow us women to show our inner selves - or as we prefer it, a glance at our primal instincts from the days when we were ruthless cavewomen.
The one month of the year where we get to turn into entirely vicious animals, caring only about number one as we squirm, scramble and search for last seasons' trends at discount price. Sequin hotpants for a tenner? Oh, go on then.
But whilst everything is dirt cheap, we must remember that we still have to slum it in the sales racks, verbally (and sometimes physically - when required) fighing to get to any item of clothing, and let's be honest, it's not always that good is it?
Here, we give you the reasons why we just can't get enough, and why most of us have had enough:
Love - It's as cheap as my Nan's gym membership
OK, so everything is cheap, we get it, but nothing beats that feeling of finding the perfect dress/pair of shoes in your size and then finding out that it costs the same price as a coffee from Starbucks.
We all know that a bit of retail therapy stimulates the pleasure centre of our brains, but this is absolute euphoria. It's the triumph that we love so much, the feeling that the whole day of thrashing through the sale jungle has been worth it because you've finally found that perfect pair of shoes that you're going to wear everyday, FOREVER.
Love - The thrill of the hunt
Some girls simply like the chase, a bit of healthy competition never hurt anyone, it's what we tell ourselves, and it's almost certainly true.
Ever reached for the same clothing item at the same time as someone else? It's ruthless, but imagine the feeling of winning it. You probably won't like it when you get home anyway.
Love - Green Eyed Monster
We're forgetting the most important thing here, the look on your friends' faces when they see you in your brand new, amazing sales find.
In the moment you don't just think, "that's an amazing dress," you think, "that's an amazing dress and everyone else will be jealous of how good I look."
Love - It's Pleasurable!
It's obvious. We get great pleasure out of bargain hunting. We may find it annoying having to tread through racks of useless junk, but the more we do it the more we perfect the art of it, and if you're good at something, you're going to enjoy it.
We love clothes, we love shopping for clothes, we love wearing the clothes we've shopped for, and we certainly, above all, love getting these clothes for a cheaper price.
Loathe - Parking
Parking may not seem like a big deal now, but have you ever tried to drive into town and not only find a free parking space, but also find a space where the price of your parking won't be as expensive as you're bundle of bargain bests?
It seems as though every person in the world has driven their car into town via the same road as you. You then end up driving around in circles for 30minutes waiting for someone to leave. Take our advice and get the bus, it's cheaper - and probably a lot faster.
Loathe - Everybody Else
You're the best shopper ever in the world, and you know how to shop, right? You're a pro. But all these little, unimportant people are getting in the way of your sale searching. In fact, they're really annoying, pushing and shoving you, getting in the way of those leggings you're trying to reach for, and most frustrating of all they're saying rude things right to your face.
Not only have a bunch of catty women decided to occupy the sales' racks on the day you came shopping, but it seems that all the rude, ignorant and impossibly slow people are out too. Old people and children should not be allowed to shop on the same days as you, or those people who stop in the middle of the street for no reason when they know you're walking right behind them.
Loathe - It's SO Last Season
We're going through all this effort... for last season's picks. OK, so we can probably get away with wearing them now, but it's worth remembering that a million people have already worn this trend before you and if you're all about being the first one to showcase a new fashion, then the sales are probably not for you.
Loathe - Is there actually anything worth more to you than the money?
You've got the money to spend, but you know full well you can probably just spend it on something else, something better. Hitting the sales can be disappointing for many, as shops are getting rid of their stock from Autumn/Winter and making way for Spring's brand spanking new collection.
This sometimes means that if you're a size 10 or 12, the UK's average, you will struggle to find anything at all, and instead you will be confronted with either a size four or a size 26. Annoying, but inevitable.
So there we have it, the reasons why we all complain, but secretly love the January sales. It's not that bad is it? Although, we'll definitely be doing all our sale shopping online next year.
