A healthy breakfast is important to set us up for the day

Thanks to our busy work schedules we spend just three minutes and 15 seconds eating our breakfast, and most of us do it standing up.

According to the survey commissioned by Weetabix, only half of us eat breakfast at all, and many prefer to have a lie-in, while others blame the growing pressure to get to work early.

The research, which questioned 2000 adults, found taht 51 per cent said they spent jsut three minutes 15 seconds eating in the morning while eight out of 10 people have 'deskfasts' three times a week.

Checking emails and Facebook and Twitter, or watching TV, were among other reasons why people have time to squeeze in only a short breakfast.

Sian Porter, Weetabix's consultant nutritionist and dietician, says: "It's a fact that people who miss breakfast don't make up nutritionally later in the day. We're all getting busier which means making the time to sit down and eat a healthy breakfast which will get us through the day is more important than ever."

One in 20 people admit to eating breakfast in the bathroom because they are so squeezed for time and a fifth of parents say their children eat breakfast in the car on the way to school.

In some regions of the UK, people are more likely to skip breakfast completely.

However, three quartes of Britons believe that breakfast is the most important meal of the day.
