Fish pie has managed to nearly bag the top spot in a list of much-loved ready-meals, a study revealed yesterday.
It's our second favourite telly dinner - the runner up to lasagne. Spaghetti bolognaise seizes the third position.
Lasagne is placed first for the second consecutive year - with Sainsbury's managing to sell 26 a minute.
Chicken tikka masala, a winner in previous years only managed seventh spot.
Sainsbury's is quoted as saying in the Mirror newspaper: "Lasagne still holds the title but old-fashioned recipes like fish pie, cottage pie and shepherd's pie have made a comeback."
The study illustrated that lasagne is purchased more in Leeds and fish pie in Harrogate.
Purchases of ready meals jumped more than 50 per cent between 2004 and 2005, soaring from around £1 billion to over £1.6 billion. Currently, 62 per cent of households consume them on several occasions throughout the week.
Here are the top ten: "Lasagne 2 Fish pie 3 Spaghetti bolognaise 4 Chicken korma 5 Spaghetti carbonara 6 Cottage pie 7 Chicken tikka masala 8 Moussaka 9 Shepherd's pie 10 Macaroni cheese."
