Alexander Wang is inspired by people he sees on the street.
The fashion designer - whose devoted celebrity clients include Diane Kruger, Lindsay Lohan and Mary-Kate Olsen - is not motivated by famous people, preferring to base his designs on "everywoman".
He said: "I'm not the type of designer who locks himself away in a room. It's always a work in progress and very much a team effort. I have to be interacting with people to get inspired.
I'm a big believer in being able to have a life outside of work. This is fashion, but it's not this crazy, serious thing. It has to fit into your life.
"People inspire me, though not necessarily the people you think. I don't mean celebrities. I admire people in the street or friends. I love how they put themselves together without being aware of the style component. That's very inspiring."
The 25-year-old designer is also drawn to "relaxed atmospheres", and works hard to ensure his studio is friendly and serene.
He explained to Britain's Grazia magazine: "I've interned at a couple of places where you just work around the clock and you never have any fun. I'm very into creating a pleasant atmosphere.
