American Apparel have had to pay out in Woody Allen's lawsuit against them after a settlement was reached.

Our favourite store for all things tight and shiny will pay the actor $5 million for using his image in their advertisement without permission, Access Hollywood reports.

Allen said that he hoped the settlement "would discourage American Apparel or anyone else from ever trying such a thing again".

Dov Charney, the clothing company's president, said it was not his decision to settle the case and added that American Apparel's insurance company "controlled the defence".

He said: "I'm not sorry of expressing myself."
