With only a few shopping days left, almost 10 million men will need to brush up on their partner's bra size before hitting the high street for those last-minute Christmas underwear gifts, according to new research from InvisibleHand, the free online shopping tool[1].

The survey shows that many men are completely clueless when it comes to bra sizes. In fact, over four in ten (41%) don’t know their partner's measurements. This is almost matched by the 38% who do not know the size of their partner's ‘undies’ either. This goes some way to explaining why so many women end up red-faced or disappointed by receiving the wrong sized underwear sets at Christmas.

The female of the species, on the other hand, appear considerably better at sizing up their partner's measurements - almost three quarters (72%) know their beloved’s chest size. Women also appear much more attentive to their partner's attributes – an impressive nine in 10 (90%) know their partner’s underwear size, meaning men are less likely to have to return underwear presents after the festive season.

Robin Landy, founder of InvisibleHand, says: "There is a clear difference in how men and women tackle underwear shopping – while women go armed with the right information men have yet to learn to check their partner's underwear size before hitting the shops. As a result, women are more likely to receive the wrong-sized underwear this Christmas and men are more likely to be starting the New Year in the dog house.

“Having the right information doesn’t just mean knowing the size. It’s also essential to make sure you are getting a great price and not paying over the odds for your gifts. Shopping online makes this far easier and using InvisibleHand to make sure you are getting the cheapest price before clicking the ‘buy’ button makes getting a bargain even easier still.”

According to the survey, having to stand around the women’s underwear section is a high street shopping hate for over one in ten (11%) men, alongside having to wait for their partner outside the changing room (15%). This may go some way to explaining why women end up with the wrong size, with men wanting to get in and out as quickly as possible, regardless of whether the right size undies have been purchased.
