Diane Von Furstenberg said her role at the CDFA is to increase the exposure of American fashion.

The legendary designer, who created the iconic wrap dress, is the President of the influential Fashion council. She also wants to represent designers and address the key issues in the industry.

She told WWD:' My first and main goal is really to increase the exposure of American fashion. I want to work on all the benefits.'

'I think with the most successful members of the CFDA, it will be about giving, and with the people who are less successful, it's more about taking. We are a community.'

Von Furstenberg has only put initiatives in place to address the ‘skinny debate’ which is one of the hottest topics in fashion at the moment.

She added:' "I am very lucky. I have had my second career, which is only eight years old, but very, very successful, so the way I take this job is that it's about giving.'
