The Victoria & Albert museum is launching a fashion retrospective of the Golden age of Fashion.

The exhibition will showcase Parisian and British couture between 1947- 1957. One of the highlights will be the ‘ New Look’ section which shows Christian Dior’s 1947 collection.

Dior’s launch of the ‘New Look’ for his first collection in 1947 shocked and delighted the fashion world, creating a new style that symbolised femininity.

The full skirts and hour-glass silhouettes were considered highly decadent, synonymous with luxury, opulence and prosperity, following the austerity of the war years.

The exhibition will explore the creation of couture design, from the post war era to the huge success of the major fashion brands.

It features stunning gowns from designers including Balenciaga, Norman Hartnell, Dior and Givenchy.

The exhibition runs at the V& A from 22nd September 2007 - 6th January 2008.
