John Galliano gave Paris Fashion Week some traditional English elegance in his latest collection for Christian Dior shown yesterday.

The designer celebrated Dior's 60th anniversary with a step back to an age of sharp tailoring, sophisticated yet sexy fish tail dresses and powerful fur-clad shoulders.

The theme for the show was 'An Englishman in New York' and Sting was given a seat in the front row as his hit song played the models down the runway.

Galliano combined old fashioned English grandeur with a funky New York edge. Beautifully tailored trench coats cut in leopardskin and zebra and fox-trimmed evening capes gave that 'socialite off to see a broadway show' look.

Underneath the formal courtliness were delicate lace-edged baby dolls, satin slip dresses and ornate kimonos all embellished with exquisite crystal beading for total patrician luxury.

The tailoring spoke for it's self in the evening wear. Full length fish tail gowns in satin and silk were left free of fuss and decoration apart from a simple silk flower.

Forever the show man- Galliano himself took to the stage for his final bow wearing white silk top and tails. He's certainly pulled off Dior's 60th anniversary with a class and style that only he could deliver.
