Christian Louboutin Battles Over Red Soles

9 months ago 11th Sep 10:41

Christian Louboutin is battling to trademark the signature red soles on all his shoe designs.

The shoe legend is fed up of other companies cashing in on his popularity by putting red soles on their own shoes to imitate his famous designs.

Louboutin has filed a trademark application in the US to protect his scarlet soles and he also intends to repeat the process in the UK.

"The shiny red colour of the soles has no function other than to identify to the public that the shoes are mine," Louboutin told the US Trademark Office, according to reports this weekend. "It attracts men to the women who wear my shoes."

This action comes during a legal battle between Louboutin and New York-based shoe label Oh…DEER! over its use of the famous signature.

The red soles of the luxury shoes came about after Louboutin used to paint the soles of his early designs with nail varnish to give them an extra edge. These days the red sole is a a symbol of status that is often flashed about by the rich and famous.
