Geraldo Da Conceicao has been named the new creative director at Sonia Rykiel.

The designer - who is currently womenswear design director at Louis Vuitton - will succeed April Crichton, who took over at the helm of the label last September.

The Canadian-born designer - who has previously worked for Tom Ford, Alber Elbaz and Stefano Pilati at Miu Miu and Yves Saint Laurent - will begin his new role next month.

Geraldo's first collection for Sonia Rykiel will debut in February 2013 for autumn/winter 2013-14.

The label have decided against showing at Paris Fashion Week this season but are instead using their showroom in the French capital to stage low-key presentations for buyers and press.

Geraldo's appointment comes amidst a period of change for the fashion label.

In February this year, Fung Brands Ltd. bought an 80 per cent stake in the company.

The founding family still hold the remaining 20 per cent.
