Jason Wu is reportedly planning to show a significant fur collection at New York Fashion Week next month.

The designer, who has gained huge publicity following Michelle Obama donning his work to the Inaugural Ball last week, has been inundated with requests since then.

His website received an astonishing 4 million hits, although he has played down the attention, saying that he's now focusing on his Autumn 2009 collection, reports Fashion Week Daily.

He revealed to The Daily last week: "I'm doing a significant fur collection, and the message will be all about luxury. Fashion is also sort of escapism, and women need beautiful dresses to lose themselves in."

Although Michelle championed his work for one of the most important occasions in history, there are doubts she will wear some of his new work, particularly if it's made of fur, as it's likely to enrage animal activists, such as PETA.

PETA recently lobbied Donna Karan for two years, before she scrapped fur from her collection. Could Wu be facing similar threats if he is to take centre stage with a fur lead fashion collection?

Well, we'll find out on February 13, when Wu will be debuting his collection on the first day of Fashion Week.
