Matthew Williamson will showcase his latest collection inside the Tate Modern during London Fashion Week.

The British designer says he was keen in showing his spring/summer 2012 range at a new venue during the prestigious event and thinks the historic gallery is the perfect place to do it.

It's an amazing space which I feel will contrast really well with the collection. I'm looking forward to creating an intimate space within the hall and seeing the intricately detailed clothes work against the stark, minimalist structure.

Matthew's projects and events manager, Estella Thomas, told vogue.co.uk: "For our spring/summer 2012 collection we have chosen to show in the turbine hall inside the Tate modern gallery on the Southbank. It's the first time a designer has been able to show in this iconic London landmark building and we are thrilled to have this opportunity."

Matthew added: "It's an amazing space which I feel will contrast really well with the collection. I'm looking forward to creating an intimate space within the hall and seeing the intricately detailed clothes work against the stark, minimalist structure."

Earlier this month, Matthew launched an affordable diffusion line, MW collection, which is available from My-Wardrobe.com.

My-Wardrobe's buying director Luisa De Paula said: "We are delighted to present Matthew Williamson's debut diffusion line collection MW Matthew Williamson.

"The collection stays true to Matthew's signature design aesthetic, but at an accessible price point."

The collection is targeting younger customers but retains the designer's usual eye for luxury textures and feminine shape.
