Rinko Kikuchi is the latest actress to become the face of Chanel following in the footsteps of Nicole Kidman and Keira Knightley.
The Oscar nominated actress will appear in the adverts for Chanel's cruise collection of handbags from November and join the growing number of Hollywood names to front the label.
"She has real power in her gaze, and an enormous potential to be a great actress," said Karl Lagerfeld, who shot the campaign in June in Paris to fashion week daily.
Lagerfield also said he was enchanted by the Japanese actress's "manga character" look and her Japanese doll-like features: "She can look at you with childlike naivety, then suddenly become a mysterious woman," he added.
The new campaign features Kikuchi posing in a shop window with various different bags from the range like a real life mannequin.
"I've always loved the brand, but it was completely beyond my reach," said the actress, "And now I wear it all the time."
