Roberto Cavalli has been cleared of tax evasion, six years after his accounts first came under scrutiny.
Vogue reports that Italy's Supreme Court of Cassation cleared the designer of all charges, annulling the verdict issued by the Appeal Court in Florence last January, which upheld a conviction on charges of fiscal evasion.
Authorities claimed in 2002 that Cavalli had avoided paying the right amount of tax, trying to put over $3 million worth of renovations to his Tuxan villa on his company's books.
In March 2006 he was sentenced to 14 months in prison aster the Florence court found him guilty but a legal technicality meant that he never served the time.
After the final ruling Cavalli said he was very pleased.
"As anyone who has lived in Italy long enough knows, it sadly happens often that people in the limelight are attacked for personal reasons and falsely accused and things are only checked at a later date."
