Snorers Burn More Calories

A new study has revealed that people who snore can burn up to more calories than those who sleep soundly.

Snorers can burn up to 2000 calories a night, according to the study conducted by Eric J Kezirian from the University of California, San Francisco.

After analysing 212 patients, those who snored heavily burned a huge amount of calories each night, while even those who snored quite lightly still managed to burn off 1600 calories.

The noisy habit apparently increases the activity in a sufferer's nervous system, triggering the weight loss.

However, before we all get excited by this news, Kezirian is keen to point out that there can be many health problems that occur with heavy snoring.

He said: "First, sleep-disordered breathing often results in fatigue and other (changes) in daytime functioning that can limit physical activity."

"Second, this (study) does not specifically incorporate the emerging evidence that suggests that sleep-disordered breathing may alter energy intake, whether through hormonal or other mechanisms."

"Future research considering the effect of sleep-disordered breathing on body weight can include the effects on energy intake and expenditure." He added.
