Weinstein brothers Bob and Harvey have bought the iconic American fashion house Halston. The brothers have gone into partnership with private equity firm Hilco Comsumer Capital with plans to relaunch the fashion label with the help of Jimmy Choo founder Tamara Mellon.

The label which was founded by Roy Halsten Frowick, who shot to fame in 1966 after designing a collection for Bergdorf Goodman,is famed for the use of material known as 'ultra suede'. And famously changed the face of airline uniforms after he produced a new look Braniff Airlines.

The line also claimed to boast Elizabeth Taylor, Andy Warhol and Liza Minelli as clients.

The Weinstein Brothers are best know for their work in the movies being the founders of Miramax the distributors of independently made movies. The company named after Miriam adn Max Weinstein was boughtby Disney in 1993.

The brothers prodeuced films such as the Scream franchise and more recently Academy Award winners Shakespeare in Love and Chicargo.

But in 2005 the pairs long standing partnership with Walt Disney with Disney keeping the Miramax company. The Brothers founded the Weinstein Co the same year. It is reported that to go with their relaunch of the fashion label a documentary about the life of founder Roy Halston Frowick, who died in 1990 from Aids, is to go ahead.
