Alexander Wang thinks Balenciaga's new scent is timeless.

The designer, who took over as the fashion house's creative director in 2012, hopes his brand new B Balenciaga fragrance will live up to the brand's iconic reputation.

He explained to WWD: "I didn't want to base this project too much on the past, but also wanted it to be iconic to the brand. I want it to stand the test of time."

The feminine scent boasts notes including wood, ambrette seeds, lily of the valley bell, iris root and cedarwood, which Alexander believes provide the perfect combination of old and new.

The fashion guru said: "It took a lot of soul-searching, but I really wanted to do something quite pure, as I see it as a step forward for the house.

"It was exciting working on the scent and going to the essence of the brand, to its DNA, and to also combine that with my vision."

The fragrance's name, B Balenciaga, is also in keeping with the idea of exploring a fresh direction while honouring the French brand's heritage.

Alexander is currently working on a clothing collection for high street store H&M, which lands in stores worldwide on November 6.

He commented: "This will be a great way for a wider audience to experience elements of the Alexander Wang brand and lifestyle."
