Cate Blanchett has praised "generous" Karl Lagerfeld for designing a bespoke jacket for her.

The 44-year-old beauty admits she is incredibly flattered that the Chanel creative director donated two custom-made pieces for her to wear in new Woody Allen-directed film 'Blue Jasmine', in which she plays a rich, luxury-obsessed New York City housewife who loses everything when her husband (Alec Baldwin) is arrested for running a Ponzi scheme.

Karl, 80, whipped up the fashionable cream-coloured jackets in just two days and exclaimed he would "do anything" for the actress.

Cate gushed to BANG Showbiz: "That's really lovely. The costume budget was nil, so [costume designer] Suzy Benzinger, who's so fantastic, had to pull in every single favour that she possibly could. It was very generous of Karl and other designers ... Roger Vivier gave all the shoes.

"Obviously when you're playing an Upper East Side woman, when we got to the New York portion [of the film], she has access to everything. You have to see that in order to see what she then loses."

Unfortunately, the Australian stunner - who wowed in a Givenchy gown and shoes at the UK premiere of 'Blue Jasmine' in London's Leicester Square on Tuesday evening (17.09.13) - didn't get to keep any outfits from her character's luxurious wardrobe, but did have her eye on an Hermes bag.

She said: "Everything had to go back at midnight. The Hermes bag was more than the costume budget itself. They're so hard to get, so we actually had to borrow one of the PR girls' bags."
