Karl Lagerfeld

Karl Lagerfeld

The selfie, everybody's guilty pleasure and Oxford Dictionaries Word of the Year, it has ensured we are always perfectly camera-ready. Thanks to the selfie, we've seen Kim Kardashian's bum... Cherly Cole's as well. It has subjected us mere mortals to a whole load of body envy on Instagram, and it has given us Bradley Cooper, Jennifer Lawrence, Brad Pitt, Julia Roberts, Angelina Jolie, Meryl Streep, Ellen Degeneres AND Kevin Spacey, all in one photo. Now it's affecting the way we shop.

On Friday, Karl Lagerfeld's new London flagship store on Regent Street opened its doors and introduced us to a new phenomenon, the changing-room selfie.

The store is going digital to give shoppers a new experience. With iPads embedded into the changing room mirrors, customers can take a selfie as they try on the clothes, apply some Karl-inspired filters to the photo and then share with their friends on Twitter or Facebook. Viola, instant outfit approval before you buy. It's the new digital shopping experience for the image-conscious.

The clothing display rails are also fitted with mini iPads for shoppers to browse the entire collection online.

Lagerfeld isn't the first to utilise technology for the ultimate shopping experience, Burberry's Regent Street store has mirrors that transform to display runway footage and exclusive video content of the collections.

Would you pose for a changing-room selfie?
