The 'Confident' singer began her movement in January when she surprised her Instagram followers by sharing a photo of her face with no cosmetic assistance, captioning the snap: "Forgot to post this a while back ... Let's start a new Twitter/Instagram trend: #NoMakeupMonday ... Why? Cause we deserve to show the world our beauty and our confidence!!!"

Inspired by fan's reactions, Demi, 23, added "fresh-faced Fridays, #fff" to her weekly social media activity and she wanted to do it to show her fans that everyone is beautiful as they are and to empower women.

Speaking on TV show 'Lorraine', she shared: "On Mondays I'll post a no make-up picture, and on Fridays, I'll do fresh-faced Fridays. I just wanted to inspire people to show their beauty and put it out there in front of the world."

Demi - who has openly battled and overcome eating disorders and substance abuse issues in the past - strikes a very sexy pose on the cover of her latest album 'Confident' and although she promotes a positive body image message she wasn't shocked to be criticised for her choice of photo for the LP or her more raunchy lyrics.

She said: "I'm not surprised by it. You don't ever have to do anything for anybody, and that was the thing with my music on my last album I think I cared too much what other people would think and felt like I always had to be that role model. So I wanted to make my songs more inspirational and this time, that doesn't define me as an artist. I'm now like, let's have fun."
