DKNY have scatter neon orange bicycles around New York during fashion week in an attempt to show their green side but the plan has not gone down as well as hoped.
This latest campaign aimed at promoting cycling as an alternative mode of transport but DKNY have been accused of having poor taste for using a well known memorial to promote their label.
The idea of chaining bikes to lamp posts and street signs around the city is not a new one- Ghost Bike memorials hae been used for years in New York to remember those killed in cycling accidents.
A bicycle is painted all white and locked to a street sign near a place where a fatal crash took place. The memorials serve as reminders of the tragedy that took place on an otherwise anonymous street corner, and as quiet statements in support of cyclists' right to safe travel.
DKNY are also handing out bike maps of the city at their Madison Ave and SoHo stores but have yet to comment on the criticism for the campaign. Caz Moss- Female First
