The newly formed Scottish Fashion Council has announced who will be joining their new venture, aiming to promote and create awareness of Scottish fashion design worldwide. They will also have the task of nurturing and advising new fashion talent from Scotland on Sunday 14th, with the launch of their website.
The brainchild of Tessa Hartmann, founder of the Scottish Fashion Awards and leading Scottish PR company The TFF Agency, the council boasts some of Scotland’s most successful and high profile fashion players, who are based all over the world from Glasgow, London, Stockholm, New York and Los Angeles.
The Dundee born Brian Rennie, Creative Director of global fashion and lifestyle brand Gant, will Co-Chair the council with Hartmann. Rennie brings over 25 years fashion experience to the council having led Escada as Creative Director for some 20 years before moving to Gant, which retails in over 70 countries worldwide.
The objectives of the council are to initiate a programme of events, helping to inform, motivate, educate and inspire those in the business of fashion who are from Scotland. They will also launch an exciting scholarship entitled ‘New Generation Scots’.
The initiative will allow fashion graduates and young designers to apply for funding under the scheme. There will be no prerequisites, allowing applicants from anywhere in Scotland to apply.
During the course of the year, members of the council will attend the ‘Scottish Fashion Forum’, a series of lectures which will take place in Glasgow and Edinburgh which will be open to the public.
The Scottish Fashion Council will be privately funded through sponsorship at this stage, keeping it simple in structure and allowing it to grow organically.
