The 42-year-old supermodel discovered her luscious blond locks had become home for an infestation of the parasitic insects - that survive by sucking blood from humans' scalps and laying their eggs on hair strands - and she and her family have only just rid their house, and their heads, of the pests.

In an interview on 'The Ellen DeGeneres Show', she confessed: "I'm actually lice-free now as of a few days ago. My daughter was itching and then she had to go to the nurse and then they looked and sure enough they found a little egg, and I mean they're beyond small, so we had the lice fairies come over to our house."

When quizzed on what "lice fairies" exactly are, Heidi explained: "There are these fairies that come to the house and brush you for hours and get all of these lice out of your hair. They're fairies."

The 'America's Got Talent' judge also joked the fairies present you with a certificate when they've confirmed you and your family are lice-free.

She quipped: "You get a certificate from the lice fairies when you go to the school because the school wants to know."

Heidi has four children, 11-year-old Leni - her daughter from her brief romance with Flavio Briatore - and Henry, 10, Johan, eight, and six-year-old daughter Lou with soon-to-be ex-husband Seal.
