John Galliano will once again be designing

The John Galliano rumours were true as the designer joins the team at Maison Martin Margiela.

It was earlier this month that rumours starting circulating that the 53 year old would be joining the luxury French label, and today they’ve been confirmed.

Renzo Rosso - who is acting president of OTB, the company which acquired Maison Martin Margiela in 2002 - confirmed the rumours.

He told WWD: "Margiela is ready for a new charismatic creative soul. John Galliano is one of the greatest, undisputed talents of all time -- a unique, exceptional couturier for a maison that always challenged and innovated the world of fashion.

"I look forward to his return to create that fashion dream that only he can create, and wish him to here find his new home."

Galliano was fired from Dior in 2011 for making racist slurs outside a Parisian café, but was recently given a second chance in the industry with a job at Russian cosmetics company L'Etoile.

The Gibraltar-born designer will take over leadership of all the brand's lines, including both men's and women's ready-to-wear and couture, and will show his first collection for the fashion house at Paris Couture Week in January.

John hasn't kept quiet about his desire to return to fashion design and insists he has so much more to offer to the industry.

He previously said: "I have yet to design my best collection.

"The new Galliano will be even bigger and better... I love working, it's my therapy. I can draw until four in the morning every night and not feel tired... I've come face to face with my demons, medicine and alcohol. I have rebuilt myself again."

We look forward to seeing John’s work hit the catwalk once again.
