Lily Cole receiving the LATA Media Awards

Lily Cole has received the LATA Media Award for 2014.

The British model was honoured with the award for her commitment to saving the Amazon rainforest and the way she has used the media to educate people about the damage the region faces as a result of both natural forces and humans.

Lily - who was presented with the award during the All-Party Parliamentary British-Latin American Group and Latin American Travel Association's ninth annual reception in London on Wednesday night (05.02.14) - said: "I am committed to our project in saving one billion trees in the Brazilian Amazon. By raising awareness and through creating sustainable projects where we can put the profits back into the hands of the local people we hope to encourage them to protect the Amazon rainforest not only in Brazil but across Latin America."

The 26-year-old model has been a long-time activist for promoting an eco-friendly lifestyle, having collaborated with Vivienne Westwood and the EJF (Ethical Justice Foundation) - of which she is a patron - to create accessories made from wild rubber.

Lily also visited the Amazon in Brazil where she directed her own short film, 'Wild Rubber', and featured in Sky Arts documentary ,Amazon Adventure.

She is an active ambassador for Sky Rainforest Rescue and the WWF (World Wildlife Fund), who are both committed to saving a billion trees in the Amazon through green economics.
