Martin Margiela approves of John Galliano.

The 57-year-old fashion designer has admitted he is pleased that John - who was fired from Dior in 2011 for making racist slurs outside a Parisian café - was announced as the new creative director of his eponymous French label, Maison Martin Margiela, last month.

According to WWD, sources have confirmed Martin - who helmed the label until 2009 - welcomed the move as he was keen to see a leader emerge at the brand.

However, the company is reportedly keen to maintain the 'collective creative' in their studios whereby all employees don the same lab coats and operate a policy of anonymity.

The fashion house is believed to have worked with esteemed designers Marios Schwab and Mathieu Blazy in the past, although the label's owner Renzo Rosso has refused to identify them.

Renzo previously said of John, 53, joining the brand: "Margiela is ready for a new charismatic creative soul. John Galliano is one of the greatest, undisputed talents of all time -- a unique, exceptional couturier for a maison that always challenged and innovated the world of fashion.

"I look forward to his return to create that fashion dream that only he can create, and wish him to here find his new home."

The Gibraltar-born designer has taken over leadership of all the brand's lines, including both men's and women's ready-to-wear and couture, and will show his first collection for the fashion house at Paris Couture Week in January.
