The 51-year-old former Beastie Boys artist - also known as Michael Diamond - has joined forces with designer Clare Vivier to create the first menswear range for the fashion label called Mike D X Clare V, which was inspired by his need to find an alternative holdall to replace his "old backpack".

Speaking to Billboard online about the inspiration behind his latest venture, he said: "They [Cassius] wore elegant French bags, and it made my old backpack feel inferior. But I didn't want another backpack. I've had backpacks my whole life. I'm a grown man now and I should have something better."

The collection features card holders and wallets in electric and navy blue, forest green and white, laptop cases, bandanas, large tote bags in charcoal grey as well as canvas bags and slogan t-shirts.

The Los-Angeles based creative mastermind - who exclusively set up her eponymous brand in 2008 - believes the pair shared the same vision when producing the items.

Speaking about their shared view of the line, she said: "[It was] a simplistic yet luxurious [style]."

Clare took to social media to share an image of the products from their collaboration, which are now available to buy online.

She captioned her Instagram post: "Need a last minute gift for dad? Check out our collaboration with Mike D! Free expedited shipping so it gets there in time for Father's Day (sic)."

Meanwhile, the 'Fight For Your Right' hitmaker has teased he already wants to expand the capsule to cater for male needs in the kitchen, and hopes to launch "very manly" aprons in the future.

He explained: "I'm in need of a man apron. A very manly apron."
