Naomi Campbell doesn't think young models today have the same experiences as she did in the industry when she was younger because they don't have close relationships with designers.
The 42-year-old supermodel says she enjoyed a close relationship with top designers including the late Gianni Versace when she first broke into modelling, but thinks young models today don't get to enjoy that same experience because there is more of a professional hierarchy.
She explained: "I love the relationship that I have with Azzedine, with Donatella [Versace], with Stefano [Gabbana] and Domenico [Dolce], with Marc Jacobs, with Anna Sui. When I started out modelling, there weren't casting directors and there weren't stylists, so you just dealt directly with the designer.
"We were all much closer back then - we had direct communication with each other, and we all hung out when we weren't working. Obviously, now that's changed, but I believe I've kept it that way."
Naomi - who is a mentor to young models on reality show 'The Face' - admits she sometimes struggles to give young fashion industry hopefuls advice because the business has changed so much.
She revealed to Interview magazine: "I do feel that I'm talking to someone who's in a totally different place from where I was when I started modelling. I was fortunate enough to have the wonderful designers and amazing photographers around me, and editors that I knew, and if I wanted to ask a question, I asked them. So that gap has broadened a bit."
