The former Gucci boss will begin working with the Italian fashion house - founded by Domenico Dolce and Stefano Gabbana - at some point this month, following the recent appointment of Patrizio's trusted colleague Diana Zanetto, Gucci's former head of merchandising and licensing, according to Bloomberg.

Patrizio is to be responsible for handling the company's long rumoured IPO.

The 53-year-old CEO has a portfolio of working in senior roles with prestigious designer houses including Prada, Louis Vuitton, Bottega Venetta and Celine, where he served as chairman and chief executive.

Patrizio was in charge at Gucci for six years, leaving his role in 2014 at the same time as his now-wife Frida Giannini departed her position as creative director of the brand.

Di Marco proved a success at Gucci after more than tripling the sales for Kering - the French holding company - since he joined in 1999, and it is hoped that he can bring a similar success to the Milan based luxury brand in his new role and boost their growth following their recent decline in profits.
