A highstreet shoe retailer has been ordered to pay £150,000 to footwear designer Gina after copying their creations.
Moda in Pelle was accuses of stealing designs from the shoe label which is popular with the likes of Penelope Cruz and Tara Palmer-Tomkinson.
The chain has also agreed to destroy any pairs of the shoes in question which are currently on sale.
Attila Kurdash, Gina managing director, told Marie Claire they had no choice but to take action: 'The scale and audacity of the copying was such that we had to take hard, decisive action. We spend considerable time and effort in developing and creating our original designs. To have them copied like this is unacceptable.'
Moda In Pelle owner, Stephen Buck, maintains that the similarities were coincidental: "As with all highly competitive high street retailers there is the occasional risk that a product made by one company will resemble a product made by another."
