Tamara Mellon is still "very proud" of her Jimmy Choo designs.

The 47-year-old co-founder of the luxury British shoes and accessories label insists she hasn't completely left the brand behind despite exiting her post as Chief Creative Officer in 2011 and starting up her own eponymous line.

She said: "There's nothing I wouldn't wear today from the old days at Jimmy Choo; we used a lot of colour and interesting hardware. But I've put my old life to rest. They're all in storage, because you never know! I may do a retrospective exhibition one day, or [save them] for my daughter. I'm still very proud of them."

The fashion icon, who lives in New York City with her daughter Minty, 12, admitted it was a risk to leave the brand she had helmed for over a decade but felt she no longer had control of the company.

She said: "After 15 years of building the business, which was really my baby, I'd sold too much equity to have control of it. I thought, 'I can take a risk. I'm young enough to try and do it again.' What I want to do is create product, no matter how big or small the company is, and if I'm doing it the way I want to. I'm happy."

She added: "I want everything to be less fussy, but it still has to be edgy, sexy and elegant."
