There are four types of behaviour or 'personalities' women demonstrate when they hit the high street, according to new research. But which type of shopper are you?

What type of shopper are you?

The Ditherer : You'll find her aimlessly wandering around the high street with little direction as to where she's heading and what she needs. She often fails to prepare and as a result wastes hours walking around in circles.

According to recent research from personal shopping assistant app getHunt and OnePoll one in five female shoppers can be classified as The Ditherer spending hours debating over whether or not to get their potential purchase, typically walking the high street for around 156 miles year. A third of women choose not to prepare ahead of a visit to the high street, instead favouring spontaneity, with one in three women saying they shop to pass the time.

The Meticulous Shopper : Approaches shopping like a military operation. She researches all her outfit options, identifies a budget and strategically plans her trip for the afternoon.

Nearly half of women choose to browse their items online before hitting the shops, with two in five women opting to shop on their own as opposed to with a friend, partner or parent.

The Splurger : You can spot her in the shops at noon on payday. She can't wait to part with her hard earned cash for the latest must have item.

The research indicates that 15% of women admit to guiltily splurging an entire pay cheque to get their retail therapy fix, while two thirds of women state they buy large volumes of cheaper items, emphasising that quantity can be more important than quality. Nearly half of women admit they never budget before going shopping.

The Smash & Grabber : Also known as the 'impulse shopper'. Blink and you miss her as she rushes to the till without trying any of her items on. Often suffers from a serious case of buyer's remorse post her frenzied shop.

One in ten of us are classified as The Smash & Grabber often caught in a rush to the till, and nearly half of women suffer from a case of buyer's remorse. It is this type of behaviour which leads to women spending an estimated £1.6 billion on impulse purchases each year.

According to Adriana Neumann, CEO and founder of getHunt:

"The results reveal the four different types of behaviour British women exhibit when shopping - The Ditherer, The Meticulous Shopper, The Splurger or The Smash & Grabber - and that there's room to improve the shopping habits of each personality. The getHunt app is designed to help women plan and shop more efficiently, enabling them to organise shopping sprees and map stores before leaving their home to venture onto the high street. The simple to use interface enables women to avoid splurging on frivolous items or impulse buys, putting less strain on the average person's wallet. This is the same type of logic most people are already using for their weekly food shop - something that can too be applied when shopping for fashion items on the high street."

If you answered mainly 'A': You're a Ditherer

You're never quite sure what you need or want when it comes to shopping. You need to get organised and identify where the gaps in your wardrobe are, where your favourite brands are located and how long you have to spend shopping. Personal shopping assistant app, getHunt, allows you to map the stores before you hit the shops.

If you answered mainly 'B': You're a Meticulous Shopper

You have all bases covered from where to shop and what to budget. Perhaps the one thing lacking is a place to keep all your Pinterest board and photo grabs on your iPhone. Organise your shopping sprees on the getHunt app to give you that peace of mind.

If you answered mainly 'C': You're a Splurger

It's time to reign in the spending and realise money needs to be saved. getHunt enables shoppers to control their sprees by calculating the total cost of each shopping trip. By doing this you'll be able to make more informed decisions and your credit check history will be healthier as a result.

If you answered mainly 'D': You're a Smash & Grabber

You're in urgent need of some discipline. You get excited by the thrill of the chase but often fail to organise yourself and budget appropriately. getHunt can help you to identify where you need to shop, map the stores before you leave your front door and really help you to consider 'do I really need that? Will it go well with my existing wardrobe?'

Women spend an average of 1.2 hours a week walking around the shops before they make a purchase. Therefore 1.2 hours per week multiplied by 52 weeks means women are shopping for 62.4 hours in a year before making a purchase. The average person walks 2.5 miles per hour. Therefore 62.4 hours multiplied by 2.5 miles = 156 miles
