Hayden Panettiere at the Golden Globes

Tom Ford has sent Hayden Panettiere flowers to thank her for wearing his design to the Golden Globes.

The designer personally gifted the 'Nashville' actress with a bouquet of white roses to thank her for wearing one of his dresses to the film and television awards last Sunday, smoothing over any backlash about the actress buying the black-and-white halterneck dress herself for an estimated $10,000 rather than being "officially" dressed by Tom.

The dress debacle started when Hayden told E! Online on the red carpet: "It's the first time I've ever worn him, because I've been begging. I feel sexy in it, I feel comfortable in it and I'm in Tom Ford. I would wear a plastic bag if it was designed by him."

Tom's PR team then quickly announced the blonde bombshell hadn't been personally picked to represent the acclaimed designer, who only loans one dress to a carefully-chosen celebrity for each awards show. His choice for the Globes was Naomi Watts, who stunned in an ethereal gold sparkling gown.

In order to ensure there were no hard feelings, Tom sent Hayden a note reading: "Dear Hayden. You looked beautiful last night. Thank you for your kind words. Much Love, Tom."

Hayden, 24, was thrilled with his card and posted a picture of the gorgeous bouquet on Twitter, enthusing: "Such an honor to wear one of this man's masterpieces! Thank you for my beautiful flowers!"
