Tommy Hilfiger is re-designing a hotel.

The fashion designer is turning his talents to interior design by re-designing The Raleigh on Miami Beach into a luxury hotel and private members club, which he promises will be full of "grandeur".

He said: "I am going to bring back the grandeur, the elegant feeling of relaxed luxury, that The Raleigh had when it first opened."

The building - which the 63-year-old bought for an estimated $56.6 million in April - was originally constructed in 1940 by Art Deco-inspired architect L. Murray Dixon, and Hilfiger is determined to rescue the many original features of the beautiful hotel, as well as bringing a contemporary twist.

He told the New York Post newspaper: "I want to preserve the treasures of the hotel while turning it into a timeless and exclusive escape."

Adding to the 80 rooms, restaurants and a spa, Hilfiger is also believed to have reached out to music executive Tommy Mottola in a bid to secure exclusive performances for a nightclub which he hopes to build at the hotel.

However, it is believed the high-end hotel - which may be turned into a chain, with The Raleigh's name being trademarked in several countries - will only cater for the rich and famous, and will ban cameras and phones in an attempt to create a relaxing space for the stars it hopes to attract.
