Dame Vivienne Westwood has accused some female designers of making women look "vulnerable".

The controversial fashion designer has praised her "talented" husband, Andreas Kronthaler, before criticising her fellow female designers.

Talking to InStyle magazine, she said: "Andreas designs as much as I do, if not more now, and I keep leaving it up to him because he's very, very talented.

"Men put women on a pedestal and make them look powerful and important. That's what I like about working with a man. If you're not careful, a lot of female designers can make women look a little bit girlie and vulnerable."

However, the 73-year-old style icon quickly iterated that she doesn't believe labels have a place in fashion.

She said: "Art should never be sociological; it's got to be timeless. It's got to be your vision and how you can represent the world you see."
