The 44-year-old actress was convicted of the crime in 2001 after she was caught snatching $5,560 worth of designer goods - including a $760 Marc Jacobs jumper - but it seems the lavish brand hasn't held it against her as she's been chosen to represent the company's Spring 2016 collection.

The fashion designer, 52, took to his Instagram account to share a photograph of Winona in the new advert.

He accompanied it with the caption: "It is with great pride (and pleasure) that I "leak" this image from our upcoming 2016 MARC JACOBS BEAUTY campaign.

"Photographed here by David Sims and styled by Katie @kegrand, it stars my dear friend (of over two and a half decades), the stunningly beautiful and extraordinarily talented, Winona Ryder (sic)."

Meanwhile, the 'Edward Scissorhands' star was found guilty of shoplifting from SAKS Fifth Avenue in 2001 and was sentenced to 480 hours of community service, slapped with large fines and forced to undergo counselling.

The charges were reduced to misdemeanours four years later but she remained on probation until December 2005.

Despite the difficult time, Winona believes the arrest was "the best thing that could have happened" to her at the time.
