The 'PILLOWTALK' hitmaker has released a 23-piece collection of t-shirts, hoodies and sweatshirts inspired by his latest music release and his roots.

He said: "Everything was created with the idea that this is something I would want to wear. I wanted to approach this as an opportunity to extend my ideas as an artist, and to give fans another facet of who I am ...

"My family is from Pakistan, so having artwork in Urdu has huge significance to me."

And the 23-year-old singer teamed up with illustrator Mark Wilkinson, who is best known for his work on Iron Maiden's cover art, for the collection and says it gave him a "license to do something exciting conceptually".

He added to Vogue magazine: "Working with Mark gave me a license to do something exciting conceptually with a lot of colour and detail. The art we created gives a nod to the vintage rock-band T-shirts but with my own concept."

Meanwhile, the former One Direction star opted for his own design to wear to the Met Ball earlier this year and revealed it was inspired by a video game character.

He shared: "I wasn't really sure what to expect. I know it's a big deal in the fashion industry. Anna Wintour obviously runs the whole thing so it was an honour to even get to go. I was asked to design my own costume by Donatella Versace!

"It was cool. I had seen a few people hitting me online, saying negative things about it. But I enjoyed it because they were saying I looked like a dude from Mortal Kombat, and it was actually based on a character called Jax. He had metal arms and the theme was technology so I just took it from him ... It's a bit easy to just dress up in a suit. I like to do things that are a bit outside of that."
