Giorgio Armani created the dress for the opening ceremony at Cannes for Memoirs of a Geisha star Ziyi Zhang.

The actress looked stunning in the red dress which was custom made by the Italian designer.

Armani said that Ziyi attended his fashion show in February and the entire design process began months before the event.

He told Grazia magazine:" She is a mesmerising person: a strong character with a beauty that has a fragile quality. It was important for me to design a dress that reflected her personality without dominating it."

Armani has dressed countless celebrities for the red carpet but he said:" I love creating dresses for women who inspire me."
